Heart disease is a common problem and is not limited to only older animals. Cardiological examination reveals also congenital or inherited heart diseases. Possible cardiac symptoms include cough, rapid fatigue, dyspnea and lethargy.
Cardiac assessment is done using the following tools:
♣ Echocardiography (Doppler)
♣ Blood pressure monitoring
♣ Holter monitoring (24h)
Once a correct diagnosis is made, a veterinary cardiologist will recommend the best treatment.
The most common cardiac diagnoses are:
- Degenerative valvular disease
- Dilated cardiomyopathy
- Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Cat cardiomyopathy
- Patent ductus arteriosus
- Abnormal heart sounds
